"I have a photo of a mother and calf coming down the road right at us. These photos were taken in th Kenai Animal Refuge in Alaska on June 15, 2006, with a Nikon D70 digital with Nikkor 70-300mm lens. Donald."

Mooseworld: A very cute little moose who we are glad to see is getting off the road by following its mother.

"I live in North Pole, Alaska and share my yard with a second-generation female moose. When I woke up this morning [April, 2006] she was lying in the road outside of our house and immediately I feared the worst. As it turns out she was in labour and about to give birth to a new baby. I got this picture of her before she trudged off into the brush to have her baby. Ariella."

Mooseworld: Thanks for the photo. Good luck to Mom and another member or members (recall that cows often give birth to twins) of the class of 2006 (see below.)

"My wife and I live in Granville, Vermont and often are visited by cows and bulls and their offspring. Our swimming pond is a favorite spot for one bull in particular. Since we share this idyllic spot with these beautiful animals we decided to call our home 'Moose Hollow.' John."

Mooseworld: This indeed looks idyllic with the sun, mist and bull moose.

"Here is a photo of a young moose in my yard this morning. It came strolling into my yard in Steuben, Maine at 11:00 am on April 8, 2006. It wandered around for a bit before going into the deep brush between my yard and the blueberry barrens. Liz."

Mooseworld: First photo from the class of 2006!

I feel kind of special today. I had my first moose sighting in Colorado! I was driving down SR 72, near Ward, just north of Nederland. There she was, standing in the middle of the road. I pulled over and watched her for a few minutes. Lucky thing I had my digital camera in the truck. All I kept thinking was, "Wow, that's a big animal. I’ve been told moose were introduced to Colorado in the 1970's, but this is the first time I’ve ever spotted one. While I was digging for my camera, the big critter moseyed off of the pavement and into the pines. I managed to get a few pictures before it disappeared out of sight. Steve."

Mooseworld: We are happy to be getting more and more reports of moose in Colorado (see below).

"I too LOVE moose...I have so much moose stuff, I am running out of places to put it...I have seen moose near my house and would like to share some pictures of the moose I saw and of some of the moose things we have. Thanks, Janice."

Mooseworld: These photos were taken at Cameron Pass, Colorado. Moose Collections can be seen here.

"This picture was taken on September 13, 2005 on our property outside of Athol, Idaho. I had seen this bull moose in July on an evening walk and the next morning he was in our camp. I did not get pictures then as I was too busy getting the children out of bed at 5:30am to "see the moose."

I was glad when he again decided to grace our camp in September. This time I was prepared with my digital camera. My husband and dog had just been outside so I was quite surprised to look out the window (before I went out) and see a moose looking back in at me! I whispered "moose" and grabbed my camera and snuck out the door once he began to move away from our trailer. He allowed me several good pictures before he left. Unfortunately, I did not get one of him checking out the empty Moose Drool Ale case. That would have been a fun picture! Linda."

Mooseworld: Thanks for the nice photo of the bull moose "inspecting" your camp. Don't worry about the ale, though. Moose are not big drinkers at that time of the morning. :-)

Here is a bull we encountered on Mt. Magalloway in New Hampshire. We had just gotten back to the trailhead after hiking to the top of the mountain. The trailhead is about eight miles back along logging roads. I looked up to see the bull emerging from the woods and feeding along the edge. He was about 25 feet from us and continued to feed for about 10 minutes while we watched. He then slowly walked along the logging road and onto area of the woods making a quiet woofing noise. Great experience for us, especially being so far back into the woods.

On a side note, we live about 45 minutes north of the new Fishkill, New York sighting [see Moose Sightings]—the same moose was seen just about five minutes north of our house the previous day but we didn't hear about it in time to go spotting. Thanks. Elisa.

Mooseworld: Elisa is now a regular contributor to Mooseworld. She took the photos for the New England Moose Travelogue and contributed August's home page photo. We appreciate her support.

"I have enjoyed your Web site, especially the wonderful photos of moose! It has been a wish of mine for the last several years to "see" a moose in its wonderful habitat. My wish came true after booking a moose safari with a guide in Maine. I vacation in Maine each year (live in Indiana), but had never strayed away from the beach to enjoy the fabulous forests and lakes...all moose habitat! This past June, I saw 11 moose in a day including a calf and cow! West Branch Pond (Greenville, Maine) was a moose retreat and the view from the canoe was spectacular!

One of the photos I would like to share is of a young moose. It's looking at the camera as if saying, "Yes, I see you"!

The other photo is of another young moose that was feeding at the pond's edge.

Thanks for the wonderful collection of photos, educational information, moose items, etc. that Mooseworld shares! Sincerely, Desiree"

Mooseworld: What a season for moose in Maine (see also sightings below). It's gratifying to us that so many of our loyal users can finally get to see real moose and what gentle characters they really are.

"I have a large fibreglass moosehead. Weight is 350 lb. Horns span 9 foot 4 in. Has sunglasses and a big smile. It is a must see item. Was on a restaurant that closed. Mike."

Mooseworld: OK. What does a moose lover do when a honking big moosehead comes on the market? Well ... buy it! We agree with Mike that this cool dude is a "must see item."

"I saw Sarah's report about 43 moose sightings in the Moosehead Lake (Maine)region, and I'm not at all surprised. I have been a lover of moose since I was a young child, and had never seen one up close at all until these past few Spring months after first visiting the Moosehead Lake region. On Route 201,from around Skowhegan and Jackman to Greenville, and from Greenville to Kokadjo, is where I have recently spotted about 30 moose.

This picture was taken on Lily Bay Road, where a crowd had gathered to watch a mother moose drink from a puddle, while her twin babies stayed close. A few cars had scared them back into the woods, but after noticing that their mother stayed firm and calm, they creeped back to the roadside. Thanks! Tamara."

Mooseworld: Perhaps Mooseworld needs to set up a branch office at Moosehead Lake just to keep up with all of these wonderful sightings!

"I have some very close up photos of a mama moose and her two day old twins. They were taken from the window of my home in Achorage [in June 2005]. Katie."

Mooseworld: Thanks for these wonderful photos. We are sure the moose appreciate Katie's hospitality as much as she appreciates hosting the moose family. We especially like how one of the calves is really racked out in the bottom photo.

"My husband Jeff and I recently spent a few days up at Moosehead Lake, Maine [May 2005]. My husband's favorite animal is the moose, and we were hoping to at least see one. Well, we didn't see one, but we did see 43! In three days we ended up seeing 43 moose—it was unbelievable. My husband took several fantastic pictures of these beautiful animals, and I hope everyone enjoys them! Sara.

Mooseworld: How many people have seen 43 moose in a lifetime, let alone in a "few days!" Thank you Sara and Jeff.
